Man That Touched Ariana Grande at Premiere Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who jumped over a barricade and grabbed celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The individual, twenty-six, was handed a penalty to nine days in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to local media.
He forced his way through camera crews and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on 13 November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in the past June.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with many claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her show in the English city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of 22 people and affected hundreds.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Security staff stopped him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared videos appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Police took him into custody the following day and charged him with public nuisance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge the magistrate was referenced by media reports as stating that the man sought attention, adding that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the case.
Erivo spoke about the incident to NBC, stating that she "only aimed to make sure my co-star was safe."
"I think he didn't intend us danger, but you cannot be certain with such situations, and I wanted to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she commented.
